Choreography, Self-Tapes, and a Little Rest

This week has been a little different from the past few weeks. After what feels like an endless amount of rehearsals, shows and schoolwork, I’ve finally gotten a little bit of time to slow down. I’ve been trying to find a balance between getting things done and giving myself time to relax, which is easier said than done. But more on that later. What’s been up with me this past week, though?

One of the biggest things I’ve been working on is choreography for the ONU Holiday Spectacular! As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been given the opportunity to work as the assistant choreographer for the show this year, which means I get to help put together some of the new choreography. It has been exciting to start working on the pieces and figuring out how everything is going to come together. Holiday is always such a big production, so there is a lot to think about and plan before rehearsals even begin. Even though it is still a few weeks away from starting rehearsals, there is already plenty to do, and I’m excited to see how everything comes together once we get into the studio.

Along with choreography, I’ve also been working on filming self-tapes for summer stock submissions. In layman’s terms, summer stock is a type of theater where performers work at a theater company for the summer, usually putting on multiple shows throughout the season. A lot of these companies have auditions and submission processes that happen months before the summer actually begins, so now is the time to start getting materials together and sending them out.

Outside of all of that, I’ve also gotten to spend some time relaxing at home. It has been nice to have a little breathing room and not feel like I have to be running from one thing to the next every single day. I think sometimes, it can be easy to fill every available second with something productive. There is always another show to work on, another audition to prepare for or another assignment to finish. While I can tolerate being busy and having things to look forward to, it has been nice to take a step back for a little bit and just enjoy having some time to myself.

This week has been a nice change of pace. I’ve still had things to work on and responsibilities to keep up with, but I’ve also had a little more time to breathe, which I think I desperately needed. Now it’s time to keep finishing up choreography, continue sending out video submissions and see what the next few weeks have in store. Hopefully, I can manage to keep a little bit of that balance going forward!
