Living Well!

Unfortunately, I’m not quite living up to my expectations from last week. I’m still just as overwhelmed and stressed as ever. That said, I’m trying to slow myself down and appreciate some of the smaller things in life, not sweating the stuff that’s out of my control. I’ve had some tough days lately, and my partner and I keep reminding ourselves to take a step back and breathe.

I’ve started to appreciate the little things, like my usual table being open at the Mac, or wondering what flavor “Warm Cookie Wednesday” will be this week. Plus, I’ve been making it a point to watch TV shows with friends on campus and deepen those relationships. I tend to be a bit guarded when it comes to trust, so I’m working on being more authentic with those around me.

On a brighter note, Ride the Cyclone is finally coming together! We did a run-through of the first half of the show last night, and it went surprisingly well, with little to no issues. It was the first time we had the majority of our props and costumes, so I’d say having so few problems was pretty impressive! Tonight, we’ll add movement to the last song, and then choreography will be done. Once that’s complete, we just need to stage the last few pages, and the show will be finished!

We have a designer run on Wednesday, October 16th. For those who don’t know, a designer run is when the lighting designer, sound designer, costume designer, and general crew come together to watch the show. This helps them understand what the production needs to look like once we move it from rehearsal into the theatre. We need to have everything fully completed by then, so I think we’re in a good place!

This weekend, we’re supposed to take a trip to a fair to capture some photos and B-roll for the show.

While I’ve had a rough week, I’m hopeful for the upcoming weeks and excited for the audience to finally see Ride the Cyclone! Just a reminder: I’m in the “black cast,” and the show runs from October 24-27. Come check it out if you’re interested!

  1. It’s exciting to hear that Ride the Cyclone is coming together so well! It sounds like you’ve made a ton of progress, and I bet the designer run will go smoothly. The fair trip sounds like a fun way to mix work with some relaxation.

  2. I feel like with midterms this week, everyone is stressed together. Hang in there! I think that in order to get over anxiety or stress, filling spare moments with friends and fun events helps make time go by faster and more enjoyable. I remember when I lived on-campus, one of the main highlights of my week was warm cookie Wednesday. Cherish that while it lasts, as I now have to unfortunately bake my own cookies in my spare time for the same effect. Also, this upcoming show you are apart of sounds like a blast! I hope all goes well with the show and you have a less-stressed filled rest of the semester.

Also, I am so excited to be at that designer run next Wednesday. I can't wait to see all of your hard work. I know you will be absolutely amazing in it. I love you Matty and I'm always here if you need to chat.

  4. It is so important to take time to yourself and appreciate the little things. I am recently starting to learn how to do that as well. I'm glad you are working on taking care of yourself during this really stressful time! I hope the designer run went well and I cannot wait to see the show.
