Podcasting is for everyone
To be brief, I love podcasts. They are my favorite thing to listen to when I am doing anything from chores like folding clothes to any time I’m driving. I prefer comedic or influencer podcasts than story based or informational. Right now I am listening to 3 podcasts consistently:
The Bald and the Beautiful by Trixie Mattel and Katya
The Broski Report by Brittany Broski
Canceled by Tana Mongeau
It is a dream of mine to one day have a podcast where I can have friends on and just talk about anything random for an hour. Those are always my favorite kinds of podcasts where two or three people just sit down and have a candid conversation, as these often create authentic moments of laughter and reaction.
The statistics in the chapter about podcasting do not surprise me at all. It has only continued to rise in popularity especially in the last 5 years. I believe that the COVID-19 virus encouraged people to seek out podcasting as a way to listen to others talk. I know that personally I enjoy listening to podcasts with two or more people, because it feels like I’m on a phone call with friends listening and being a part of their conversation. One of Spotify’s top podcasts at the moment is Call Her Daddy where host Alex Cooper brings on a variety of guests for a talk show style interview. I think a big reason that this specific podcast is popular is because of the guests Alex brings on her show. These guests include Olympic athlete Simone Biles, actor and singer Keke Palmer and iconic actress Jane Fonda. I believe that the general population is very interested in what these stars have to say in a candid conversation with Alex. Often, if an artist or someone I follow appears on a podcast that I don’t listen to, I will make the effort to tune in. I don’t often listen to “The Comment Section” by Drew Afualo but when she had Chappell Roan on, I couldn’t resist listening to the episode.
I feel like podcasting as a medium is relatively accessible to everyone. In chapter 12, it is mentioned that the budget for equipment and setup is low compared to other forms of content such as vlogging. Not to mention that so many different kinds of podcasts exist, so it would be easy to find your niche and still gain listeners. Even if a podcast was exclusively about hunting for water in the Sahara Desert, someone would be interesting enough to listen to every new episode. I enjoy that aspect about podcasting, that there is truly something for everyone.
