Building from the ground up
Creating a new business is hard. What’s even harder is finding your target audience and creating a marketing strategy that caters to them. I know a few people who have just started out either creating their own brand and managing their social media at the same time or managing social media marketing for a new startup.
While chatting with them, we discussed how difficult it is to identify a target audience when there are no analytics to review. For a while, it is a matter of assuming who your audience is and throwing things at the wall until something sticks. In our simternship simulator, we are given a wealth of information with their audit and research report because it is a company that has been in business for over a decade. In a real-world environment for many of us, we are likely to start off at a new business or startup, so it is vital that we can navigate social media strategies to put in our “toolbox,” so to speak, so that we can hit the ground running when it comes time to implement these strategies.
The simternship has me very excited and is giving me hands-on experience, which is how I learn best. One of my favorite aspects is reviewing the social media audit and the research reports to inform how I post and what I schedule. I am enjoying the feeling of real-world social media management.
I also really enjoyed the simternship. It really opened my eyes to how much work goes into a single day, and a single week of posts. You have to be really organized to keep up with posts. You also have to really be able to connect with your audience. I can't wait to keep trying!
